Calling a Truce on the War with Your Body to End the Eating Disorder / Dieting Cycle

For those of us struggling with an eating disorder or constantly dieting, we have been taught that our body is the enemy. We are constantly at war with our bodies, fighting them to conform to a size or shape that we are told we should have. A body type that will bring us love, acceptance, and success.

These feelings are so valid, because the truth is that people in larger bodies are not treated with the dignity they deserve. Body shaming is real. We live in a f*cked up society.

You know what else is true? We can’t hate our way to a better relationship with our bodies.

If you’re tired of the eating disorder / dieting / overeating cycle, you have to be ready to do the hard work of rejecting diet culture. I say it’s hard because it IS hard. Being at war with your body is also hard.

Trust me when I say I totally understand that the idea of NOT dieting, of NOT trying to make your body smaller, sounds SUPER scary. I’ve been there.

I’ve also stopped the calorie counting, the macro counting, the cutting out food groups, etc. Do I have my dream body? No, I don’t.

What I do have is peace of mind, mental clarity, better relationships, and a more fulfilling life. I wouldn’t have those things while still chasing a body I’ll never have.

You have one life, do you really want to spend the rest of it at war with your body?

I’m sending you so much love and compassion, and I know that you can do the hard work of healing your relationship with food and your body.
